SUGAR INDUSTRY PAPER.  July, 2008.  A paper was added to the Sugars Papers section of this website titled: Influence of reduced temperatures in evaporation and crystallization on the sugar quality and energy consumption in sugar production by Q. Smejkal, A. Bagherzadeh and R. Schick, Technical University of Berlin.  This paper was published in German in the May 2008 issue of Sugar Industry 133 (2008) No. 5, pages 330-339.  It is provided by kind permission from the Sugar Industry journal.

 

SUGARS NEW VERSION RELEASED.  June 21, 2007.  Version 3.7.11 of Sugars was released and it is now available for download by all users of Sugars with current software service agreements.  This is a minor new release with a few new features and corrections to reported bugs until version 4.0 is released later this year. 

 

SUGARS LETTER NO. 7 ADDED.  April 13, 2007.  Added Sugars Letter Issue No. 7 to the Sugars Papers section of this website.

 

DATA EXPORT TO EXCEL.  April 9, 2007.  Instructions for exporting Sugars balance results to either an embedded Excel spreadsheet, or into an Excel spreadsheet running separately from Sugars was added as an Adobe pdf that can be downloaded from the "Support/Downloads" section of this website.

 

SIT PAPER ADDED.  February 28, 2007.  Paper titled: Thoughts on Refinery Crystallization Schemes was added to the Sugars Papers section of this web site.  This paper was originally presented to the Sugar Industry Technologists meeting in Dubai, UAE on April 3-6, 2005.  Also, it was published in Zuckerindustrie 131 (2006) No. 3, 179-185.

 

NEW SUGARS CONSULTANTS.  January 24, 2007.  Fry Engineering, LLC, Fargo, North Dakota USA and James Joyce and Associates, Queensland, Australia are new Sugars consultants.  Mr. Paul Fry, President of Fry Engineering has worked with Sugars for many years modeling both beet and cane factories.  Dr. James Joyce and Mr. Ivars Klisans with James Joyce and Associates are both experienced users of Sugars.  Please contact either of these companies for consultation with Sugars or for modeling projects.

 

AMS POSTER SHOWN AT ISSCT ENGINEERING WORKSHOP.  November 21-24, 2006.  The ISSCT Engineering Workshop was held in Veracruz, Mexico and IPRO Industrieprojekt GmbH, Braunschweig, Germany provided a poster covering the Advanced Monitoring System (AMS).

 

NEW SUGARS CONSULTANT.  November 17, 2006.  MS Processes Intl, LLC, Hutchinson, Minnesota USA is a new Sugars consultant.  Mr. Mark Suhr, President has extensive experience with Sugars and is available for modeling, training, consultation and feasibility studies using Sugars.

 

AMS POSTER SHOWN AT SPRI CONFERENCE.  September 17-20, 2006.  Aguas de São Pedro, S.P., Brazil was the host for the 2006 Sugar Processing Research Institute, Inc. conference titled "Frontiers in Sugar Processing".  IPRO Industrieprojekt GmbH, Braunschweig, Germany provided a poster and flyer of the Advanced Monitoring System (AMS).  Also, a paper titled Factory Performance Evaluation with the Advanced Monitoring System (AMS) was prepared for the conference proceedings.

 

AMS POSTER SHOWN AT SIT CONFERENCE.  May 14-17, 2006.  La Baule, France was the site of the 65th annual technical conference of the Sugar Industry Technologists.  Gunther Ahring and Boris Morgenroth, IPRO Industrieprojekt GmbH, Braunschweig, Germany presented a poster titled Process Control in the Refinery Employing AMS (Advanced Monitoring System).  The accompanying flyer to the poster gives an overview of the AMS and how it can benefit a refinery.

SUGARS NEW VERSION RELEASED.  February 11, 2006.  Version 3.7.07 of Sugars was released and it is now available for download by all users of Sugars with current software service agreements.  This is a major new release with many new features and improvements including: (1) new highly accurate steam and water algorithms, (2) transfer of station and flow stream data to fields that can be reference on the model drawing for display and custom calculations, (3) additions to the station stencils, (4) new properties for some stations, (5) internal structural changes to incorporate the new steam and water algorithms and for new features in the future, and (6) corrections to reported bugs.  An Adobe pdf document listing the changes and improvements is available on the Sugars User's Group web site in the files section.

 

SUGARS NEW VERSION RELEASED.  July 8, 2005.  Version 3.6.04 of Sugars was released and copies were sent to all users of Sugars with current software service agreements.  Included in this new release were improvements to stations with some new fields, flow stream data display on the Visio drawing and new additions to the stencils containing station types and groupings to model various factory equipment.

 

ASSBT MEETING IN PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA USA.  March 2005.  Sugars International attended the American Society of Sugar Beet Technologists meeting in Palm Springs, California USA from March 2 to 5, 2005.  The latest version of Sugars was distributed to companies that attended the meeting and have active Sugars software service agreements.

 

ISSCT MEETING IN GUATEMALA.  February 2005.  Sugars International attended the International Society of Sugar Cane Technologists meeting in Guatemala City, Guatemala from January 30 through February 4, 2005.  A paper was presented titled Modelling a Continuous Pan Installation using Sugars for Windows.  Also, demonstrations of the next version of Sugars™ for Windows® to be released later this year were given at the meeting.

 

INTERNATIONAL SUGAR JOURNAL PAPER.  January 2005.  A paper titled New Developments in Information Technologies was published in volume CVII, issue no. 1273, 38-41 (English), 42-46 (Spanish) January 2005 of the International Sugar Journal.   Service Oriented Architectures and Web Services for communication between software applications is discussed along with the Advanced Monitoring System for importing data into the Sugars model of a factory.

 

ZUCKERINDUSTRIE ARTICLE ON FIRST AMS.  December 2004. A paper titled Advanced Monitoring System (AMS) for Process Control was published in the December 2004 issue of ZuckerIndustrie 129 (2004) Nr. 12, 866-868.  This paper gives more details about the AMS and results from the first installation in a Brazilian cane sugar factory.

 

SUGARS NEW VERSION RELEASED.  September 9, 2004.  Version 3.5.11 of Sugars has been release and copies sent to all current users of Sugars.  This new version has a number of enhancements including: support for Microsoft Visio 2003, new online help with additional information and diagrams, revisions and improvements to some of the examples, improvements to station shape stencils with new shapes and equipment groupings added, faster display and printing of reports, faster drawing update following a balance, revisions to station properties and other improvements.

 

ADDITIONAL COPIES NEW PRICING.  July 15, 2004.  All copies of Sugars will have the same license and software service renewal price beginning January 15, 2005.  Companies that have more than one copy before January 15th may continue software service of their additional copies at the 50% discount price to the first copy for all copies that they purchased before January 15, 2005.  Please contact us if there are any questions about this new pricing that will be effective January 15th.

 

COMPANIES IN 30 COUNTRIES HAVE PURCHASED A LICENSE TO SUGARS.  July 1, 2004.  Sugar companies, engineering firms and consultants in 30 countries of the world have purchase a license to use Sugars.  The first order for Sugars was received in 1986 from Spreckels Sugar Company, USA and now, 18 years following that first order, companies in 30 countries have purchased a license.

 

CITS MEETING, MADRID, SPAIN.  May 18 thru May 21, 2003.  Sugars International attended the Commission Internationale Technique de Sucrerie (CITS) General Assembly, Madrid, Spain from May 18 through May 21, 2003.  A paper was presented by Dr. Boris Morgenroth (IPRO) and Mr. Warner Weiss (Sugars International) titled Advanced Monitoring Systems for Process Control.  Also,  demonstrations of the Sugars for Windows program were given at the meeting.

 

INTERNATIONAL SUGAR JOURNAL PAPER.  February 2003.  A paper titled Technology in use in the modern beet sugar factory was published in volume CV, issue no. 1250, February 2003 of the International Sugar Journal that discusses new developments in the sugar industry.  The article states "...when you view a modern beet sugar factory utilizing a full working model developed in Sugars.  Sugars is used by technical staff to allow thoughtfully planned capital projects as well as daily process changes in a highly automated centrally controlled process.  This advancement is facilitating the drive to integrate a working model for process control automation to allow real time changes without operator intervention."

 

ISSCT ENGINEERING WORKSHOP, BERLIN, GERMANY.  October 2002.  Dr. Boris Morgenroth, IPRO, Braunschweig, Germany, presented an overview of a new Advanced Monitoring System (AMS) add-on for Sugars that is a joint development between IPRO and Sugars International.  The AMS is a program that works with Sugars to import data directly into the Sugars model of a factory to provide information about the process including heat, material and color balances, and to evaluate process improvements.  Further information about the AMS can be obtained by contacting Dr. Morgenroth (E-mail: morgenroth@ipro-bs.de).
