PAPER
PUBLISHED IN INTERNATIONAL SUGAR JOURNAL. July
2001. A paper entitled Modeling
the New Technology Raw Sugar Factory/Refinery Using Sugars™
for Windows® was published in Volume CIII, Issue No.
1231 of the International Sugar Journal based on work
done at the Sugar Cane Growers Cooperative (SCGC) of Florida.
The paper covers modeling of the raw sugar factory with ultra
filtration, juice softening, chromatographic separation and
crystallization added to the factory to produce 500 US tons per
day of refined sugar using approximately 20% of the clarified
juice. The added revenues for the factory from the new
technology are shown and other alternatives are discussed.
ZUCKERINDUSTRIE
ARTICLE ON SMBS COOPERATIVE. February 2001.
An article titled Modernization of the Southern Minnesota
beet sugar factory was published in the February 2001 issue
126 (2001) of Zuckerindustrie magazine. This
article discusses the expansion of the factory to 14,500 short
tons per day of beets. As discussed in the article, Sugars was
used for the expansion to evaluate "...many different
scenarios. This allowed the design to be optimized for thawed
and frozen beet conditions at a range of throughputs as the
factory capacity was progressively increased."
